  • If you are eight to eighteen and would like to take your skiing to the next level.  (Skiers should be able to ride the lifts on their own and handle all of Lookout Pass's marked runs.)
  • If you’d like to find out what ski racing is all about.
  • If you’d like to be involved in a fun and friendly team atmosphere where kids, parents and coaches work together to improve each individual racer’s skills.

 Team Training Philosophy

  • The major targets of focus during our training sessions will be:
    • General advanced skiing skill development
    • Race-specific skill development
    • Race tactics
    • Team cohesiveness
    • Safety awareness
    • A lifetime appreciation of the sport
  • Depending on each day’s goals and activities, we will train in a variety of group sizes. Our small groups will be determined by age and skill level.
  • We believe that being a part of a race team is about more than just running gates, so various “free-skiing” activities and drills will take up a healthy portion of our training.
  • Because of our strong commitment to a unified team spirit, we certainly welcome and encourage parental help and participation on both training and racing days.
  • All team members are expected to behave at all times in a manner that supports our team spirit.  We reserve the right to send home anyone detracting from that spirit.
  • This is the core of our racing schedule.
  • There are 5 Emerald Empire Youth League races.
January 6 Schweitzer  GS
January 26-28 49 Degrees North Training / SG - GS / SL
February 9-10 Mt. Spoakne GS / SL
February 29 - March 2 Stevens Pass Buddy Werner Championships GS / SL
March 15-16 Lookout Pass YSL Finals
  • These races are primarily for the J5 (10 and under) and J4 (11-12) age categories, though our older racers may also compete in all of these events except for the Buddy Werner Championships.
  • Going to these races is optional.  Coaches will continually monitor parents and kids regarding which races individual racers might wish to attend.
  • On race days, because coaches will be very busy getting kids ready for their events, we assume that parents will handle the responsibility of taking care of:
    • Equipment
    • Lift Tickets
    • Lunches
    • Clothing
    • Etc.
  • To help keep the cost of the program down, we will leave the transportation of racers to the events up to the parents
  • December 15 through March 16, (aside from race weekends) the team will train on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  (With a lunch break at around noon.)
  • Additionally, instead of meeting the weekends leading up to Christmas and New Years, we will gather for a 3-day Christmas camp running December 26-28.  This camp will give us the opportunity to get to know one another a little better, get some snow mileage under our belts, work on skills, and get ready for our first race on January 6.

Equipment

  • Appropriate skis, boots, and bindings for the age and ability of the skier.  Remember, we are seeking to achieve advanced-level skiing.
  • Helmets are mandatory.
  • As we progress in our training and start skiing through set courses, the following items become essential.

----------- When we get to “stubbies,” shin guards protect the kids and give them confidence.

----------- For tall poles, padded gloves and hand guards are nice. Again, this protects the skier and lends confidence.

----------- For slalom training and racing, a chin guard is a must.

  • $370 (not including lift tickets)
  • Team members will need to assume the cost of registering for USSA membership dues.  USSA membership is necessary to participate in races.  Go to www.ussa.org for more information.
