The Lookout Pass Free Ski School is celebrating it's 69th year and has taught approximately 40,000 kids how to ski and snowboard! The free lesson tradition first started in 1940 and the Saturday school is run by a group of volunteers devoted to teaching kids both the skills and etiquette they will need for a successful lifelong skiing experience.
When we say free, we mean just that. The lessons last approximately one hour for beginners and one and a half hours for intermediate and advanced sessions which are held on the mountain beginning on January, 10 2009. Kids from 6 to 17 years of age may participate and are placed in classes according to their skill level. Each child must supply his or her own ski/snowboard equipment. Rental equipment is available at the ski area. Give yourself adequate time to get outfitted. Lift tickets are not required during the lesson sessions but are required should the child wish to ski or snowboard during the balance of the day. Classes begin at 10:00 AM with start times staggered for the different levels. All beginning classes start at 10:00 AM PST, intermediate and above start at 11:30 AM PST.
Buses will run from Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Silver Valley and Western Montana locations to bring participants to their lessons, as in previous years. The Liberty Lake, Post Falls, Hayden and Coeur d'Alene buses cost $12 per 'round trip/Saturday. The Silver Valley and Western Montana buses are FREE. As can be seen from the Free Ski School , children are picked up and returned to numerous locations.
The Free Ski School is funded by donations.
