Welcome VIP’s 

This page is to make you aware of next steps and what needs done prior to your arrival at Lookout Pass on June 23, 2018 between 8:40 and 9:00 am. 

We would love to have you and your family spend the day with us for a special commemorative bike ride on the 15 mile (all downhill) Route of the Hiawatha Scenic Bike Trail as we celebrate the trail’s 20th anniversary on June 23, 2018.
We’ll highlight:
  1. The trails rich history,
  2. The community effort that made it the “Crown Jewel”
  Rail-Trail 
that it is today,
  3. We'll look ahead to its long-term sustainability. 

8:40 to 9:00 a.m. | Meet at Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area (For bike fit, review how bike lights work for use in tunnels and to fit helmets, enjoy some light snacks, and hop on the shuttle for a ride to the trailhead at East Portal.)

10:00 – 10:30 - 20th Anniversary Ceremony at East Portal trailhead.

10:30 – 10:45 – Separate into small guided groups to start the commemorative ride and enjoy a few Historical interpretive talks along the trail.  

10:45 – 1:45 to 2:20 – Guided Rides should finish at Pearson – Groups will load onto Shuttles for a fun ride back to Rolland where you will once again ride through the Taft Tunnel.

VIP Guests will arrive back at Lookout Pass where they can enjoy a Vendor Fair and some light refreshments in the Loft Pub.

4:00-5:30pm Jameson Inn & Saloon, 304 6th Street, Wallace, ID informal drinks, gathering, pre panel discussion.

5:30-6:30pm Jameson Inn & Saloon, Making the Hiawatha a Panel Discussion and more from trail advocates. Where you'll learn about the making of the trail and discuss what the next 20 years might look like.

6:30 – 7:30 @ The Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum, 219 6th St. Wallace, ID - Post panel discussion & reception at Northern Pacific Railroad Depot. One of kind Milwaukee and Great Northern RR artifacts and exhibits on display.

SATURDAY EVENING— Historic Wallace, ID

5:30-6:30 20th Anniversary Parade through downtown historic Wallace

6:45-7:30 Presentation speaker & film, Making the Milwaukee, Wallace District Mining Museum

The Historic Town of Wallace and the Silver Valley invite you over the course of the weekend to visit and tour our Breweries, Pubs, Restaurants and Shops. 

Reminder of IMPORTANT THINGS you must do:  Please RSVP by May 15th to: Shoshana Cooper – SMCooper@FS.Fed.Us or 208.765.7211. So we know you will be joining us on the Hiawatha Trail on June 23rd

Please Send an Email to Matt Sawyer -Matt@SkiLookout.com with information so we can have your bikes made ready and delivered to the Hiawatha Trail for your families use. We’ll need the following for each VIP & Family Member who wants to use one of our bikes:

  Bike Type: Front Suspension or Comfort Bike:
(Comfort bikes have a front suspension with a shock absorbing seat). 

Helpful Tips: The Taft Tunnel averages 47 degrees year round. Most people like to wear a light jacket and gloves while rideing thorugh the tunnel. Bring a lunch and some snacks, water or drinks, for the ride. Bring your cell phone for photos or a camera. Bring some cash or a cc to purchase food at the bottom of the ride when you reach Pearson and are waiting for the shuttle.
